Global Standards and Processes

The forum was created by the merger of CIES, GCI and the Global CEO Forum. It has a mandate from its members to develop common positions on key strategic and practical issues affecting the consumer goods industry, to focus on non-competitive collaborative process improvement and to provide network for thought leadership and knowledge exchange.

GS1 is a leading global organization dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve efficiency and visibility in supply and demand chains globally and across sectors.

The Global Packaging Sustainability Project is an initiative launched by the Global CEO Forum in 2008, aiming to deliver a common set of packaging sustainability indicators and metrics. The project assembles some 40 companies from the retailing, branded goods and packaging converter sector in the consumer goods industry. So far it has delivered a vision of how packaging needs to be addressed in the context of sustainability, common definitions, the business case for addressing metrics at the global level and a set of principles for metrics. The next phase will focus on delivering a global set of common indicators and metrics for measuring packaging sustainability. This will resonate with work already underway in the US under the Sustainable Packaging Coalition in which a number of consumer goods manufacturers and retailers are involved.
