Introduction

Sustainable transport has become a major focus in the Retail and Fast Moving Consumer Goods industry in recent years. Transport makes up over 30% of the total energy consumed within Europe and within that 82% is attributable to Road Transport.

 There are substantial forces currently driving a need for change in the FMCG industry, these include:
- Environmental challenges and governmental targets on CO2 reduction
- Scare resources in terms of oil and rising fuel prices, road capacity and driver resources
- The economic pressure on consumers and their ability to deal with price rises

 These factors, and others, mean that we must make every endeavour to deliver fully sustainable transportation into our businesses.  Economically sustainable, Environmentally Sustainable, and Socially sustainable.
